After 3 days of riding up and down the valleys along the Murray River, today we traversed 75km of almost flat countryside as we made our way to Barooga.  The weather was warm rising to 36 degrees by 4.00pm but our ride was done by 12.30.  The first half of the ride to Mulwala was with a nice cross-tailwind which changed to more of a cross headwind as we swung more NW to Barooga.

Accomodation is with the golfers at ...

The town is a popular golfing venue and there were certainly lots of golfers sitting round swapping hard-luck stories about the one that hung right when it should have hung left.

PubServ found a quite spot before the start of the ride for a sneaky look at the map book, trying to decide where the best place would be to make his move and try and drop his fellow riders.

Chalkie somewhat redeemed himself after his disgraceful effort two days ago by organising morning tea at

We were absolutely spoilt for choice here

with a wide selection of tasty treats.  Antonio and Ganners
contemplated another vanilla slice to go with the cream bun and custard tart they had already consumed.

It was just as well Antonio had filled his tyres with extra air

at the start of the day to support the extra weight.

SASMan as usual, did a brilliant job leading the group

along the rough country roads with Twinkletoes

always close behind.

The local (Barooga) hotel sent a courtesy bus to fetch us for dinner
and the Big 4 were soon clambering aboard eager to find a seat.  It was a bit squishy with twelve of us crammed into a 10-seater bus so Cockie, ever the gentleman, volunteered to have one of the ladies

sit on his knee.

We were soon heading indoors

ordering drinks

and waiting for our meals to arrive. SASMan added to his parmagiana count

but at 2 nights of 4, is well below his life-time average of 90%.

Tomorrow is our first 100km + day as we head to Echuca.

The above are the kms ridden in our search for the award winners in the Helpful Driver and Selfish Rider categories.
There is no clear leader in the Selfish Rider award as yet, though with some longer days ahead of us the field should soon start to separate.
