Day 15. Tuesday 14 March, 2023. Waikerie to Swan Reach

Another day with perfect riding conditions as we clocked up 104 kms from Waikerie to Swan Reach.  

While most of the group took off from the Sip n Save,

having filled bidons up with all manner of helpful fluids,

 the others left for the C&C cycle shop for running repairs.

All fixed with glowing reports from all concerned for the owner/operator Craig. The SASMobile caught up with us

halfway through our ride allowing Antonio and SASMan to join us. 

 It was then we noticed a nasty gash on SASMan's leg,

which he attributed to an attack by a vicious lavendar plant at the cycle shop.

There was the seemingly inevitable puncture early in the ride and when there was a bit of trouble unseating the tyre, Ms Twinkletoes was on hand to provide some helpful advice.

Another bush morning tea

followed by lunch at Blanchtown after 72 kms.

 All lined up nicely ready to go after lunch.

Then we backtracked over the bridge

turned right and it was 30 kms across the flat countryside with a following wind until it was 'Welcome To ....

where we are staying in the historic old Swan Reach hotel, first built as a homestead for a sheep station but later converted ino a hotel.

Along the way today, the girls came across some kangaroo paws

which we always thought only grew in WA, but apparently not.

There were many splendid views over the Murray River along the way.

When some people go on holiday, they like to take everything, including the kitchen sink!

The Swan Reach Hotel is very old, has no en-suite accommodation, and limited showering facilities.  They asked the boys if it would be possible for them to take a communal bath, and the result.

It was necessary to be very careful when washing to make sure you didn't drop the soap, as fishing around for it underwater you were never sure of what slippery object you were going to encounter.
